WATKINS GLEN-- Bargain shoppers who spend some time in Walmart will soon notice changes that are meant to make things a little easier. Walmart in Watkins Glen is one of only a few stores throughout the country to adopt a new layout. Some changes include wider aisles, easy-to-read signage, lower shelving and some re-arranging of the departments. A Walmart manager says it took about 16 weeks for the store to be finished, but she thinks customers will find it a lot nicer. “A lot of our elderly clientele had trouble with the distance from one side of the store to the other. So the pet department is now with the groceries so it's like a one-stop-shop if they're just after groceries; they don't have to worry about going into other areas of the store if they're not interested in buying any of that,” said Laurie Andrews, one of the store’s co-managers. Over the next five years, more than eighty percent of Walmart's stores will adopt the change, which also includes a new logo.
