Painted Post Spelling Whiz Makes Bee History (VIDEO)

May 28, 2009

A nine-year-old boy from Painted Post is the youngest semifinalist at this year's Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington.
Sriram Hathwar breezed through preliminaries yesterday to become the youngest semi-finalist in Scripps Spelling Bee history.
The third-grader at Chemung Valley Montessori School spent hours each day for the last year studying for the event.
Sriram was eliminated this morning after misspelling the word “fodient."
He’s already looking forward to next year.
“It’s kind of fun feeling cause I might get past the preliminaries again soon, again next year,” Sriram said. “So I’m feeling a lot better now.”
Sriram says he'll take a week off, then start studying for the 2010 bee.
