Federal stimulus money is coming to Chemung and Tioga counties to resurface a part of Route 17. Governor David Paterson announced today that $6.5 million will go to resurfacing resurface State Route 17 between the Chemung County line and Sackett's Creel in Waverly, Barton and Nichols. The project will improve 40 miles of pavement and upgrade large culverts and guard rails. The money is part of nearly $95 million in stimulus funds coming to New York State for highway and bridge improvements. The Governor says it will help create nearly 23 hundred jobs across the state.
