CORNING-- More than a thousand glass artists packed Corning's Centerway Square Thursday night.
It was part of the Glass Art Society Conference, a gathering of gaffers from around the world. The gaffers are making art and spending money.
Thirteen hundered people people are attending the glass arts conference in the Crystal City. Peggy Coleman, President of the Steuben County Conference and Visitors Bureau, says dollars and cents wise, that's an extra million-plus dollars comming into the community this weekend.
Coleman says the month of June is the shoulder season for the area, a lull in between the peak tourist seasons of summer and fall. She says conferences like these help the many area businesses who rely on tourism dollars to get by.
