Registration, Inspection Stickers Not Sticking (VIDEO)
Ted Fioraliso

June 15, 2009

If the registration or inspection sticker on your car windshield is falling off, you're not alone.
The stickers' faulty glue has been a headache for people across New York State this year.
“It's ridiculous.  They need to do something or go back to the old school style,” said Jim Daum of Pine City.
Daum is fed up with his 2010 inspection sticker.  After just four months on his windshield, it's falling off.
“I don't know if they changed something, if they tried to go cheaper to save money, but they have to be notified about it,” said Daum.
“In previous years, you had trouble getting them off, scraping them off.  It's tough now -- they just fly off,” said Mike Fitzpatrick, operations manager at Parmenter Automotive in Horseheads.
Fitzpatrick says people are coming in every other day complaining about the stickers.
“They want to know why the paid for it, and why don't have a sticker.  They're worried about getting a ticket because they don't have an inspection sticker in their window,” said Fitzpatrick.
But it's not just inspection stickers -- registration stickers are also lacking the stick.
“A lot of people have probably gone through a whole roll of tape, taping them on,” said Chemung County clerk Katie Hughes.
Hughes says the Department of Motor Vehicles has new batch of registration stickers that shouldn't cause a problem.  She says you can call or come in, and they'll give you a new one for free.
“One way or another we're going to take care of it, because it's pain in the neck.  No doubt about it,” said Hughes.
It'll cost you $50-100 if you don’t have an inspection sticker.  So, if it's not too damaged, you can always tape it to the windshield.
The state's DMV commissioner has notified police agencies to use their discretion if they see loose or taped stickers.
