ELMIRA--Local stories from the Flood of '72 are now part of a national oral history project.
StoryCorps was recording stories from neighbors in the Twin Tiers in the Steele Memorial Library in Elmira Monday. StoryCorps is an independent non-profit project that records the stories of everyday people. It consists of collecting an oral history of America. Some of the best stories are broadcast on Public Radio and all are archieved in the Library of Congress.
StoryCorps was brought to Elmira by the ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes. The council is collecting Flood Stories in preparation for the 40th Anniversary of the flood in 2012. They are still looking for more stories. If you want to tell yours, you can call 1-866-598-7273 and leave a message.
