ALBANY--New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is warning 40 auto dealers that their ads for cash-for-clunkers are clunkers themselves.
     More than 40 car dealers across the state have received cease-and-desist letters from Cuomo ordering the dealers to modify the promotions and ads to clearly explain how the program works.        
     Cuomo says the ads fail to explain the substantial requirements needed to qualify for the federal rebates of $3,500 to $4,500 when an old car is traded in. Cuomo says many of the ads fail to note the clunker must be registered, in a drivable condition and get poor mileage. The rebate also is only available for the purchase or lease of a new vehicle.
    The popular program is aimed at boosting the national economy.
