ELMIRA HEIGHTS -- Police are charging an Elmira Heights man for keeping a python without a permit, after his ten-foot snake got loose.
Police are warning people to watch out for the snake.
The python is green and tan, and about ten feet long.
It likes warm places so people are advised to check cellars, hot water heaters, and dryer vents.
If you don't want to check yourself, call the police at 733-6580 and they'll do it.
Investigators think the snake is somewhere on the east side of Elmira Heights near Horseheads Boulevard and McCauley Avenue.
“The longer it stays out there you know its going to have to find a source of food,” said Elmira Heights Police Chief Rick Churches. “They are constrictors, so I would say any small animal, even small children I would be concerned about.
If you see the snake, do not touch it - call police right away.
The snake's owner, 20-year-old Jared Triesler, faces up to $700 in fines.
