GENEVA -- The U.S. House of Representatives has given final approval for funds to build a new state-of-the-art grape genetics research center in the Finger Lakes Region. More than $3.5 million has been allocated in the 2010 Agriculture Appropriations Bill for the project. The new building is slated to replace the current, outdated Agricultural Research Service facility in Geneva. Rep. Maurice Hinchey says the grape industry is a critical part of New York’s economy, and the funding will help it thrive even more. The total cost of the project is $30 million.
