CORNING -- A Corning East High School special education teacher is packing her bags for a journey of a lifetime! In just two days, Michele Cross will be on her way to Antarctica. She joined a program called PolarTREC -- it pairs school teachers with teams of researchers and engineers. Cross' team will spend the next seven weeks studying life under the ice with the help of a robot. “I hope to come back with an experience that will absolutely translate well to any classroom, and with that, I'll come back with working lesson plans and working activities,” said Cross. Cross will fly dream flags her students made -- she'll also experiment to see which material lasts longest in the cold weather. Right now, it's it’s –5 degrees in Antarctica.
