ELMIRA-- Taxes in Chemung County will stay where they are, as proposed in the county budget. The county legislature asked people to come out and voice their opinion on the proposed budget Monday night, but no one had anything to say. The budget, presented by County Executive Tom Santulli a couple weeks ago, elminates solid waste tax and reduces the sewer tax and levy. Taxes will remain steady at $6.98 per thousand of assessed property value. The Deputy County Executive, Mike Krusen, says he has a feeling the members of the community are pleased with the proposal. "I think most people appreciate the effort that went into the budget. It was a lot of hard work to ensure taxes were maintained steady and I think that that's what no attendance at the budget hearing represents in our opinion is that the county is generally satisfied with the county's spending plan," Krusen said. The legislature will vote on the budget proposal next Monday night.
