SAYRE - A 55-year-old man from South Dakota was arrested outside the Wal-Mart on North Elmira Street in Sayre late Wednesday night for disorderly conduct and weapons violations.
Duane Allen Benscoter allegedly went into the Wal-Mart dressed in a cowboy hat and armed with a large horse whip.
When he began harrassing employees and customers, as well as making sexual comments to several women in the store, someone from management called the police.
When police arrived, they say, they found Benscoter walking away from the store with a shopping cart, a horse whip, handcuffs, and a hunting knife strapped to his waist.
The police report explains that Benscoter claimed he needed the whip because he owned horses and the handcuffs because he used to work security.
When police searched the man's truck, they found a rifle, pellet gun, and a sword.
He's being held in lieu of $50,000 bail and faces a preliminary hearing on November 24. |
