BATH -- Another Southern Tier mother has been arrested for allegedly driving drunk with her kids in the car. New York State Police picked up 35-year-old Tania Axtell of Prattsburgh after a hit-and-run property damage accident on State Route 54A in Pulteney. They say Axtell had a blood alcohol level of 0.09% and was driving with four kids -- aged two to seven -- at the time of the accident. She's charged DWI and four counts of endangering the welfare of a child. This is the second DWI crash in the Southern Tier involving children in as many weeks. As we reported Tuesday, 26-year-old Tabitha Morris of Painted Post allegedly drove drunk and crashed on County Road 100 in Tuscarora with her two-year-old in the back seat. On Wednesday, Gov. David Paterson signed Leandra's Law, named after an 11-year-old killed in a drunk driving crash downstate. It makes driving drunk with a child in the car a felony, instead of a misdemeanor. |
