The Chemung County SPCA has a new adoption room for their cats and dogs. Friday’s grand opening of the adoption room came just in time to help ease the stress of the holiday season for both community members, and the animals. An SPCA representative says the new room reduces the rate of disease by about 20 percent and provides a more peaceful living environment for the animals. “It helps them feel comfortable while their adopting and they really get to pick the right animal for them because they don't feel overwhelmed by rows and rows and rows of cages,” she said. A $19,000 grant paid for the cat room renovations. A $1,600 gift helped pay to re-paint the dog room. Since the room officially opened in June, the SPCA has seen a dramatic decrease in the average number of days the animals stay in the shelter.
