Republican candidate for the 29th Congressional District, Tom Reed, says we need to move ahead and legalize the drilling of the Marcellus Shale in New York State.  Yesterday, Congressman Eric Massa told us there needs to be more research on the impact drilling will have on the environment and the water sheds surrounding the Marcellus Shale.
    But today Republican Candidate Tom Reed said it's time for the drilling to move forward.  “Not explore and develop that natural resource to me is irresponsible,” said Reed, “we are ready and ready to go and we should move to the next level with it.”
    Reed also responded to Massa's statement that the 12.75% royalty rate for landowners is too low.  “In my private practice I have seen royalty rates pushing, 18, 20, 25-percent, and that issue can be negotiated and that's happening,” stated Reed.
