ITHACA -- Proposed state budget cuts could force the Ithaca City School District to take drastic measures at one local school.
In an effort to make up the money from the cut, one of the options to close Fall Creek Elementary School.
Around 150 people jammed into the small boardroom for the board meeting last night.
Supporters wore t-shirts and stickers in solidarity for their beloved school, and parents spoke of what the school means to them.
Andy Weislogel, a parent says, “both my daughters, they're twins, they've just started kindergarten this fall they love being at this school the fact that this is being considered has thrown a wrench into our lives and into the lives of this community.”
The school district could lose more than $3 million in state aid.
Superintendent Judith Pastel says the board has not made any decisions, but when they do, it won't be easy. She says, “it's very difficult. It feels like I’m dismantling, with this whole budget process, a whole system that I’ve worked 14 years to build.”
Parents and Administrators say they're all in this together, and are working to come up with a solution.
The school board is in the process of putting together a financial plan.
