Parents in the Athens Area School District will still be able to send their kids to pre-kindergarten, despite the budget hold up in Harrisburg. There were talks of shutting down the Pre-K program but Superintendent, Doug Ulkins, says local funding will replace the funds that are held up in the Pennsylvania budget stalemate. Ulkins said parents can plan to send their kids to Pre-K at Gladys Burnham Elementary School until at least January. The school district hopes the budget will be in by then, with funds for the Pre-K program. If the state money doesn't come in, Ulkins says parents will be given two to three months to look for another place to send their kids.
