Sports Multi-Media Journalist | Anchor

WENY News in Elmira, New York has an immediate opening for a Sports multi-media journalist and anchor. You'll work under the supervision of the News and Sports Directors to provide compelling, energetic sportscasts each evening.

We're looking for a successful candidate who can successfully operate as a multi-media journalist, and has a passion for local sports. The right person for the job will also be a strong storyteller, both visually and journalistically. WENY prides itself on going beyond just sports highlights, digging up stories on local athletes that stand out in more ways than just their athletic ability.

The ideal candidate will contribute to WENY News as it continues to elevate its overall news content, and will become a well-known figure on the sidelines of local sporting events in the community.

Aside from daily newscasts, the WENY Sports team does a half-hour monthly show focusing on local sports and athletes, plus a number of public appearances and community events. The Sports department is also responsible for providing content to the station's website and social media platforms.

Prior experience in sports reporting is preferred. Anchoring experience is also preferred, but not required we will work with you to develop your delivery and style. Experience shooting video with HD cameras and non-linear editing systems (Adobe Premiere) is required. Live experience is a bonus.

Producer

WENY News in Horseheads, NY has an opening for producer for its 5:30/6pm newscasts.  The right candidate should have excellent broadcast writing skills, the ability to craft a well thought out rundown that`s focused on local news, as well as the ability to work under pressure and handle changes on the fly.

Prior producing experience is preferred, but not required.  ENPS knowledge is a bonus.  In addition, you`ll wear many hats, including contributing story ideas, assigning stories to reporters, maintaining communication with reporters in the field, and staying on top of station`s website and social media.  This position will not turn into an on-air one.

We`re looking for the right person to join our award-winning, tight knit team that`s focused on local news that impacts the communities in the Twin Tiers of New York and Pennsylvania.

Master Control Operator

WENY-HD has an immediate job opening for a Master Control Operator.  Candidate should be flexible and able to perform a variety of tasks from camera operator to switching on-air programming, live and recorded.  Record satellite feeds.  Operate server and audio board during studio newscasts.  Maintain transmitter and programming logs and discrepancy reports.  Previous experience with audio / video in a broadcast environment desired, but will consider trainee with technical background or training in another field.  Thorough understanding of basic computer operations is absolutely essential to be considered for this position.

Solid general networking experience (LAN, WAN etc.)
General knowledge  in Microsoft Word, Excel
Strong Communication skills (Written and Verbal)
Detail oriented, excellent organization, prioritization and problem-solving skills
Ability to handle and prioritize a heavy workload
Typing skills with high level of accuracy
Ability to work with little or no supervision
Solid understanding of PC and server architecture and inter-connectivity
Attention to detail.
Programming experience / knowledge (Java Script, HTML) helpful
