Corning in the National Spotlight

CORNING (WENY) -- Corning neighbors gathered at a Market Street restaurant to watch their city in the national spotlight.

Holmes Plate was packed for a viewing party to Rand McNally's "Most Fun Town in America" competition on the Travel Channel.

Corning was one of six finalists in the competition. The winner was Delray Beach, Florida, but neighbors were still excited to see local activities -- like glass making at the Corning Museum of Glass -- on the big stage.

Peggy Coleman of the Steuben County Conference and Visitors Bureau helped nominate Corning for the competition. She says winning would have been nice, but the free exposure will help the local economy by bringing in tourists.

"The odds of us ever being able to afford a 30 second commercial on the Travel Channel, let alone be included in a feature piece -- it's huge," says Coleman.

On this weekend's Twin Tiers Sunday with Renata Stiehl, Coleman will tell you about some of the most fun and affordable activites in the Twin Tiers.
