9/11 First Responders Simulation
Elmira (WENY) -- Some BOCES students got an idea of what first responders went through on 9/11.
They recreated some of the physical challenges firefighters faced that awful day by running up stairs for 13 minute intervals. Some students wore 20 pound vests, firefighting gear and radios broadcasting actual transmissions from September 11th, 2001.
"The students who are here today are 16, 17, 18-year-olds, and most of them have no clear recollection of 9/11," said Tammy Lotocky, a criminal justice instructor. "Our goal today is to give them a feel for what took place on that day and what were the demands placed on the first responders."
BOCES has been running the simulation event for five years.
