CAMERON (WENY) -- A Cameron man is in jail, accused firing a shotgun inside a house, then leading police on a manhunt... all while high on bath salts.
Steuben County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of a shotgun being fired inside a home by someone high on bath salts on County Route 119 in Cameron Tuesday night, a little before 11:30pm. When deputies arrived, they say 30 year old Terry Caparulo had fled the house; his abandoned vehicle as found along railroad tracks near the intersection of County Routes 119 and 10.
Authorities launched a search for Caparulo, which lasted through the night and into Wednesday morning, when Caparulo came home. Deputies found a sawed-off shotgun hidden in a wood pile, not far from where they found Caparula's vehicle.
He's in the Steuben County jail, charged with reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon. The Steuben County Sheriff's Office says Caparulo is not allowed to own a firearm, due to a felony conviction for Criminal Negligent Homicide in 2002.
Caparulo was arraigned in Bath Town Court; he's now in the Steuben County jail on $25,000 cash bail. The investigation is ongoing.
