WATKINS GLEN (WENY) -- A Watkins Glen woman will spend four months in jail for killing a bicyclist she hit last October.
The Schuyler County District Attorney Joe Fazzary tells us 37-year-old Melissa Smith was sentenced today to 120 days in jail, plus a three year conditional discharge. Smith hit and killed 35 year old bicyclist, Michael Delzell, on Route 414 in the town of Dix on October 16th.
Fazzary says after Smith hit Delzell, she got out of the car and looked at Delzell. She then got back in her car and left the scene and went to work, where she didn't tell anyone about the accident. Delzell died in the hospital five days later.
Fazzary says he asked the judge for 1 to 3 years in state prison for Smith's sentence.
