Police Make Arrest In Chemung Jogger Assault Case
Accused Attacker Extradited From Oklahoma To New York
CHEMUNG, NY (WENY)---Police have arrested an Oklahoma man for allegedly assaulting a jogger in the town of Chemung.
A 17 year-old woman was jogging in Chemung when she was allegedly attacked. State police say they now have that accused attacker in custody.
New York State Police have charged Tyrell Welch, 27, of Chelsea, Oklahoma with 1st degree sexual abuse and second degree strangulation. New York State investigators traveled to Oklahoma as part of the investigation.
At the time of the incident, Welch was living in Chemung, working for a company involved with the natural gas drilling industry. He moved to Oklahoma shortly after the incident.
Welch was arrested in Tulsa, Oklahoma and extradited back to New York over the weekend. He remains behind bars this morning.
