CMoG Unviels New Hot Shop
CORNING (WENY)---The Corning Museum of Glass unveiled its new hot spot this morning, literally.
The new space, called the hotshop, opened with a bang and hundreds flocked to see the newly renovated light-filled stage for the first glass-blowing demonstration. It's the first completion in the North Wing Renovation project.
To mark the occasion, glass-makers gathered molten glass from the old furnace and created a new piece of glass in the new space.
CMoG Executive Director, Karol Wright, says this is a great place for musuem spectators to learn how glass is shaped and fashioned.
She says, "It makes your whole experience in the gallery completely different because you understand better what you are looking at and you have a greater appreciation for what the glass artists were actually doing and constructing, the fabulous pieces in our collection."
The new space accomodates 170 audience members. Another 500 seat glass stage is in the works and it's expected to be completed with the rest of the North Wing in 2014. Corning Incorporated is paying for the $64 million dollar project.
