Reed Talks Energy at Vulcraft

Chemung (WENY) -- Congressman Tom Reed spoke to dozens of employees today at Vulcraft of NewYork, a division of NUCOR, which is one of the leading steel suppliers in the U.S.

Reed is a member of the steel caucus and supports fair trade and natural gas drilling. He says the New York plant needs cheap, renewable energy that can help run the manufacturing base and eventually bring in more jobs.

"We're going to tap into our own natural gas in the mid-short term and long term we're going to have a plan to get to alternative renewables," said Reed. "But we got to be practical because these guys need power, they need energy to power these plants and that's what's going to lead to the industrial manufacturing renaissance in America, and we're going to stand for those policies."

"To have a vibrant strong manufacturing sector in the United States, you've got to have a form of chief reliable energy," said Vulcraft Vice President Mike Heine. "Natural gas is sitting here right underneath our feet.

Reeds says the next step is to get the public engaged and make the energy policy a critical issue for the November election.
