Bias Attacks Reported At Cornell
ITHACA, NY (WENY)---The school year has already begun at Cornell University but it's getting off to a rocky start. There have been reports of two bias attacks at the Ivy League school this week.
The first alleged attack happened around 11 Tuesday night. A Hispanic student says he was hit by an egg near the intersection of University and North Central avenues. The egg was allegedly thrown from a white SUV with two or three people inside.
The student told police he heard one of the vehicle's occupants shout racial slurs at him. Police searched the area but did not locate the vehicle or identify any suspects.
The second attack allegedly occurred Sunday morning near Eddy Street. A group of three men and woman say they were harassed because of their sexual orientation and national origin. The victims say they were knocked over and chased into a house while the suspect yelled racial and sexual slurs.
One woman is Asian and one of the men is gay. In that case, 21-year old Anthony Stephans was charged with second-degree bias harassment and trespass.
