Corning Water & Sewer Hikes
May 7, 2012
CORNING (WENY) -- Corning residents could see an small increase in their water and sewer rates. Water could go up by 1.3 percent, and an additional 80 cents a month.
No rate increase has been proposed for sewer prices, but residents would be paying 50 cents more per month for their base fee. City officials say it's necessary to raise the rates because of inflation. "We feel that these are pretty minimal rate adjustments to keep up with inflation, and also some borrowing the council did last year for infrastructure projects." says city manager Mark Ryckman.
A public hearing on the sewer rates has been set for May 17. The new rates will take effect if approved on July 1.
