Debra Whiting’s Harvest Celebration
Watkins Glen (WENY) -- Hundreds of people came out to Watkins Glen Community Center to honor the life of the late executive chef Debra Whiting and support local harvesters. The third annual wine and culinary event called "Debra Whiting's Harvest Celebration" celebrates harvest season in the Finger Lakes with dozens of farm fresh produce and wines on display from 40 local vendors.
Whiting -- who used to organize this event -- owned Red Newt Cellars Winery & Bistro and served on the Watkins Glen Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors before passing away last year.
"This event in particular has really been something I look forward to doing and working with and organizing out of respect to Deb because she was my boss, but she was more than that -- she was a mentor and a mom," said Greg Tumbarello, who used to work with Whiting.
The event was also part of the Finger Lakes Food Revolution this year, which is a movement allowing the public to nominate its favorite restaurant or food producer for a Finger Lakes Foodie Award.
