Twin Tiers (WENY) - One in four women experience domestic violence at least one time in their life. Yesterday's incident has police reminding people that there are places to go for help. Up to 6 million women are victims of domestic violence each year, and often times violence isn’t reported. 15 years ago new york state started requiring all police agencies to aggressively record any incidents of domestic violence. A domestic incident report is filed when there is an injury or arrest.
Lt. Douglas Houper from the Chemung County Sheriff Office says, “Through our experience, we go to them over and over again and unfortunately its hard for the victims of domestic violence to break away.”
