Suspected Bank Robber Robbed Bank in 2002
ELMIRA (WENY) -- New revelations about the man accused of robbing an Elmira bank yesterday. Turns out, it's not first time 27 year old Daniel French is accused of robbing a bank.
French is charged with first degree robbery, and is now in the Chemung County Jail on $20,000 dollars bail. Police caught French minutes after they say he walked into Five Star Bank on North Main Street, took out a knife, and demanded money. He was arraigned in Elmira City Court this morning.
In February 2002, when French was 17 years old, he robbed the Chemung Canal Trust Company in downtown Elmira - again, using a knife. Police also say he has a lengthy criminal history.
This is also the second time in two years this bank branch has been hit - in January 2010, Stephen Spahalski walked in and handed the teller a note demanding money. He walked out with no cash and was promptly arrested.
