Elmira College Welcomes New Students

Elmira (WENY) -- The streets of Elmira ran purple and gold once again as hundreds of new freshmen arrived at Elmira College for orientation and move-in day.

More than 10,000 balloons lined the campus streets to welcome the 376 freshmen.

The class of 2016 is filled with students from 26 states and 11 different countries.

"It's exciting," said freshman Ashley Youngs. "I was a little nervous, but now that I'm here it's really exciting."

"I thought it would be a nice place," said Nicholas Lowe ,on why he chose Elmira College. "Just looking at it looks fun. It looks like it could be home."

Tomorrow the college will welcome 44 transfer students, bringing the total to 420 new students for the academic year.
