Elmira (WENY) - A company that’s been in the Southern Tier for nearly 50 years celebrated a major milestone today. Emhart Glass celebrated a century of existence by giving tours to families and anyone who was interested in seeing the business. Emhart is based in Switzerland but their Elmira facility was started locally back in 1963. The Facility makes machines that test glass bottles for companies like Anchor Glass. Emhart employs about 130 workers. Pat Ervine the Elmira Site Manager says today was about showing off their operations to people who didn't know about their home in Elmira.

“We've been here a lot of years and unfortunately people think we make glass. In reality we make equipment that obviously inspects the glass to make sure that before sending the glass to a filling plant that its acceptable for its purpose. So you don't have people getting hurt and glass being broken.”

Emhart Glass machines inspect bottles a lot of us use everyday, like bottles for wine and perfume.
