Finger Lakes Restaurant Week
It runs from Monday to Sunday next week. Sixteen restaurants throughout the Finger Lakes region will serve three-course dinners for $30 a person and lunches for $25. Another $15 gets people a taste of Finger Lakes wines paired with the courses.
Some participating restaurants will be offering everything from organic chicken to braised beef and homemade ice cream. Some chefs were surprised by how much they could find in the Finger Lakes.
"Everything from vegetables to the cheese to the wines, liquors, pretty much everything you need can be acquired in this area," said Jacob Zansitis, Executive Cheft at Corning's Three Birds. "It's kind of a way to show that there's a lot of things you can do with these local products and that you don't have to get stuff from Florida or California or from anywhere else, it can all be local."
Buying local can cost more, but the chefs say food is fresher and the meals tastier.
