Hochreiter Reacts To Elmira School Changes
Elmira (WENY) -- Despite the changes this year across the Elmira City School District, Superintendent Joe Hochreiter says it was a smooth first day of school.

Hochreiter visited six of the eight elementary schools in the district earlier today. He said he saw no noticeable impact from the reorganization.

Schools are on half day schedules this week for staff development and help them implement the new curriculum and other changes.

"In terms of staff development, in terms of resources, in terms of teachers engaging with each other, there's greater focus because you have more kids within a smaller age group so you can do things a little more efficiently and also a little more effectively," said Hochreiter.

The Elmira City School Board meets at 7 p.m. Hochreiter's contract is on the agenda.
