Local Reaction To Colorado Shooting

Local Reactions to Colorado Shooting
Southern Tier (WENY) -- Neighbors in the Southern Tier are shocked and saddened by the news of what happened last night in the Colorado movie theater. Words like disheartening, crazy and tragic were used when reflecting on the situation.

"I think it's pretty crazy that someone would want to do that," said Matthew Lutcher. "It just seems absurd to me."

"I think he's a lunatic," added Joe Kuklis regarding the shooter. "I think he's crazy, and I think he deserves to be hung."

"I just think it's a terrible tragedy," said Dawn Shaffer. "But I don't know how they can control it because there seems to have been more security, should have been, not being able to just come in all dressed up like you're part of the Batman movie."

Tim Bonomo, who owns the Palace Theatre in Corning, doesn't seem to think his business will be effected by the tragic turn of events in Colorado.

He said "The Dark Night Rises" sold out its opening midnight viewing and he predicts it will do well this weekend.

"I really don't think so," Bonomo said in regards to his business being effected. "Corning, New York is a pretty unique place, and we have a great police department. They're up and down our street which is just feet away from us all the time, so we feel pretty good about that."
