Truck Crash Ends in Paint Spill
MONTOUR FALLS, NY (WENY) -- A major paint spill closed the main road to Schuyler hospital today.
Steuben Street had to be shut down after the brakes failed on an 18 wheeler which rolled over and dumped nearly 4,000 gallons of road paint. Montour Falls firefighters stopped the paint about 500 feet short of the Catherine Creek, which feeds Seneca lake.
A quick response helped prevent a major environmental disaster.
"But each spill is unique, different circumstances, ditch lines, it's on a hill, impending rain; we've got a lot of unique things going on today but it's something we train for." said environmental engineer, Chad Kehoe.
The truck driver was ticketed for failure to obey a traffic device and out of service brakes.
