Near Drowning in Horseheads
Written By: Scott Cook
Horseheads (WENY) -- A young girl nearly drowned this afternoon at the Horseheads Sullivan Park pool. It happened around 12:30 p.m. The girl, described as around five or six years old, was struggling in the water, coming close to drowning.
Two lifeguards pulled her out of the water and performed CPR while another guard called 911. But By the time EMTs got there, the lifeguards had the girl breathing on her own again.
Village officials aren't releasing the names of the victim or the lifeguards yet, but the man who runs the pool is calling the guards heroes.
"I'm very very proud of them," said Director of Parks and Recreation, Nathan Nagle. "They did exactly what they're trained to do as lifeguards. They performed very very well."
At this point, officials will only confirm the girl was breathing own her own when EMTs got her to the hospital.
