New Rides Coming to Eldridge Park
June 12, 2012
ELMIRA (WENY) -- Two new attractions are coming to Elmira's Eldridge Park. A new 'Flying Scooter' ride, which used to be at the park, and a pony cart ride are on the way.
Members of the Eldridge Park Carousel Preservation group tracked down the rides in Angola, Indiana and were able to purchase them with the help of an anonymous donation. Even though it's a significant step, lots of volunteer help is needed to refurbish the rides and get the sites prepped and ready to go.
"When we're out there driving the boat around we get to talk to a lot of nice people and they think about the park, and what they remember about the old park. Among the top draws of the park was the Flying Scooter ride," says EPCPS President Mike Robertson.
"They can afford to come here," says Dale Bryant, a park volunteer and the Scooter Project Manager. "It's a dollar to ride the carousel, two dollars to ride the boat. It will probably be a dollar for the kiddie ride, and two dollars for the airplane ride. They don't have to drive to Darien Lake."
Leaders have not determined an exact finish date yet, but do need volunteer workers to get the project completed. To get more information about volunteering, call 607-732-8440.
