New "Park" Opens in Ithaca
A new "Park" redefines the term.

Ithaca (WENY) - A new park opened today, in a parking space. Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick unveiled his parking spot today fully furnished with two new benches. The mayor doesn’t drive a car to work so he thought he'd put his unused spot to good use. The new park is a symbol of the city's commitment to lower emissions 80 percent by the year 2050. Mayor Myrick hopes it makes people think differently about the world.
“I hope people will take a personal inspiration away maybe they think they personally can do something that will change the environment around them. I hope the second thing they take away is the city of Ithaca is taking matters of sustainability and open space and urban space extremely seriously.”
The little park was built with no cost to the city.
