New Truck for Elmira Fire Dept.

ELMIRA (WENY) --  The new engine will cost $365,565, and will respond to fires across the city, West Elmira and the Heights.

The new truck has better horsepower than its replacement, which is necessary for responding to fires in the hills.  Fire Chief Patrick Bermingham says this truck will have a longer life span than its predecessor, which will save the city money in the future.

"It's covering a big piece of ground and it's great that it's going to be upgraded," says Chief Bermingham.  "We're very happy about that."

The city council will vote on the resolution next Monday.  Bermingham hopes to get the new truck purchased and in use by spring 2013.
