Sen. Gillibrand Hosts New York Farm Day in DC
WASHINGTON, DC (WENY) -- Some of our state's best was showcased in Washington at the 10th annual New York Farm Day.
And it wasn't just yogurt and apples, visitors also had a chance to sample wine and cheese from our area. New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand hosted the event, and says it's a great way to celebrate after what's been a tough year.
"A lot of our farms are barely back on their feet, and one of the things with did in this Farm Bill in the Senate, if we ever move this legislation forward, is to create a better safety net. A better insurance for those risks for those tragedies, which, at the end of the day make or break our farmers," explained Sen. Gillibrand, (D - NY).
The 2012 Farm bill cleared the Senate in June with bi-partisan support. But House lawmakers remain deadlocked over provisions for farm subsidies and food stamps.
