Elmira (WENY) - More than 75 people showed up on Davis street in Elmira this afternoon to help Shinigawa open a new headquarters. The new campaign hub could be an important chess move for the democratic candidate hoping to win Chemung County and the election against Congressman Reed. Supporters from across Elmira, including Elmira mayor Sue Skidmore and city council members came to show their support for Shinagawa. The congressional candidate addressed the crowd and talked about his plans to repeal the bush administrations tax cuts for anyone making over $250,000 a year, and to make sure corporations are not treated like people. Shinagawa says he's happy to open the campaign office in one of Elmira's middle class neighborhoods.
“This is our first office in Chemung county and we're proud to have it here in Elmira. We have a presents here across the region and it really shows we are that we are a grass roots campaign. We don't have the big corporate part but we have the people power, it's everyday people that are helping us out and that's why we're going to win,” says Shinigawa.
This is the first office in Chemung County for Shinigawa. His primary campaign headquarters is in Ithaca.
