New York State’s Police Officer of the Year
Big Flats (WENY) -- Lieutenant Governor Robert Duffy was in Big Flats today to honor New York State's Police Officer of the Year. Retired State Trooper Gerald Segur got the prestigious award for saving a fellow trooper.
In March 2011, a drunk driver pulled a gun on Segur and his partner, Jeff Grebleski. Segur shot the suspect to save Grebleski's life.
Six other officers from five law enforcement agencies were also recognized for contributions to their communities.
"Trooper Segur, his actions, the speed at which he responded, his courage, the ability to get out and act in that way, putting his life on the line," said Duffy. "Trooper Grebleski also put his life on the line that day. It's something we cannot take time to thank them enough for what they did."
Segur said he was humbled to receive the award, but chose not to speak during the ceremony.
