Owego Police Warn of Paving Scam
OWEGO, NY (WENY) -- Owego police have a warning neighbors about a blacktopping scam in the village.
Police say members of an purported asphalt crew are going to houses and businesses, offering to repair driveway and parking lots, saying they have leftover materials, and will do the job at a discount. But when the job is done, they whack the customers with a different, higher price.
In one case, a homeowner was quoted $250; after the job was done, the crew claimed the price was $250 per square foot, and charged the customer $3,000.
Police say you should refuse offers for discounted work on your driveways or homes, if you haven't worked out a contract and schedule a head of time.
