Painted Post Water Lawsuit
PAINTED POST, NY (WENY)---An environmental organization is suing the Village of Painted Post over their plan to sell water to Northern Tier gas drillers.
Painted Post officials want to convert the former Ingersol-Rand foundry into a water loading facility. Village officials have said the deal could bring in more than $2 million annually but the filers of the lawsuit say the proper environmental safety procedures have not been followd. The Sierra Club is joined on the lawsuit by a group named People for a Healthy Environment, the Coalition to Protect New York and five individuals--some of which are Painted Post residents.
The suit seeks to annul the water sales agreement until the village conducts a full environmental review of the project. The Sierra Club claims the village did not consider traffic, noise and air quality impacts.
