PA Priest Charged with Sexual Abuse

BLOSSBURG, PA (WENY)---The following is a Press Release from Pennsylvania State Police: Mansfield

The investigation was initiated by the Diocese of Scranton after receiving information from a former parishioner/altar boy regarding sexual abuse perpetrated by the Parish Priest, Father Thomas Shoback, age 66. It should be noted Father Shoback was at St. Mary's Parish in Blossburg, PA during the time frame 1991-1997 but has since been reassigned to several other Parishes in Pennsylvania. After obtaining the allegations the Diocese contacted the Tioga County District Attorney's Office to initiate a criminal investigation. PSP Mansfield began conducting our investigation in November of 2011. As a result of that investigation the following charges have been filed on Thomas Shoback at District James Carlson's

Office in Mansfield:

1 count of Criminal Attempt to commit Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse

7 counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse

8 counts of Indecent Assault

7 counts of Endangering Welfare of Children

8 counts of Corruption of Minors

The case is pending formal arraignment in front of DJ Carlson at which time a preliminary hearing will be scheduled.
