Severe Weather Hits the Twin Tiers
May 29, 2012
BIG FLATS (WENY) -- Severe weather swept through the area on Tuesday taking down some trees and electrical wires in the Southern Tier.
Lightening nearly split a tree in half at 36 Churchill Place in Big Flats. NYSEG workers said two neighbors lost electricity for a short period of time before they were able to restore it. Fortunately the house was not damaged, but large limbs of the tree were lost from the storm.
And just down the street at the intersection of Churchill Place and County Line Drive, NYSEG workers were working to restore power for more neighbors. They said rotted wood was one of the reasons behind limbs snapping, but did not expect residents to have a long wait before getting electricity back.
