Sewage Spill On Route 17
Driver Cited For Failing To Drive At An Appropriately Reduced Speed
NICHOLS, NY (WENY)--- A Southern Tier man has been cited for failing to drive at an appropriately reduced speed after the truck he was driving rolled over spilling 200 gallons of sewage and 10 gallons of diesel fuel onto Route 17.
It happened Tuesday on State Route 17 in Nichols.
Police say Phillip Swarts was driving a Tioga County Sanitary Service truck, hauling 3,300 gallons of raw sewage, when he entered the eastbound ramp of Route 17 at an unsafe speed.
The truck then rolled over onto its left side. Exit 62 in Nichols was closed for three hours while the vehicle and sewage were removed. Swarts is due back in court on July 30th.
