Schumer Urges Sikorsky To Strike Deal With Chemung County
BIG FLATS, NY (WENY)---Turn to Blight--that's what Senator Chuck Schumer says will happen to Sikorsky's Big Flats plant if company executives don't help find a new business to fill the vacancy the plant closure will create come January.
Schumer says the Sikorsky closure is a rash and unjustified decision. The property next to the Airport is owned by the Chemung County Industrial Development Agency and valued at $15 million. $13 million in renovations were recently completed.
Schumer wants Sikorsky to strike a deal with the I.D.A. so the county won't lose any money.
New York's senior senator says the county could lose out on federal assistance without a deal.
We reached out to George Miner at the I-D-A who says, he has no comment.
