Elderly Woman Hit by Car

WAVERLY, NY (WENY) -- An 80 year old woman is dead after being hit by a car Wednesday morning.

Police say she was returning home, after buying her morning newspaper. Eighty-year old Norma Ivester lived in the apartment home directly across from Ted Clark's Busy Market.

Police say Ivester was hit around 8:15 Wednesday morning - the driver of the car who hit her is cooperating with police. A neighbor who lived in a seperate apartment in the home says she and Ivester talked often about the traffic on Broad Street, and shared concerns about safety.

Genevieve Babcock was shocked to hear the news, and that it happened to someone who was always looking out for everyone else.

"She was a very caring woman, looked out for people, she just couldn't do enough for andybody," Babcock said.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing; the driver of the car has not been charged.
